I wanted to pass along a recent happening

Hi Marital Way folks,

I wanted to pass along a recent happening that I thought you might appreciate….

A fox was visiting my house, off and on, for about a year. I’d see him on my security cameras in the wee hours of the morning.

I started looking for the fox in my video feed every morning, and I figured he was probably just scavenging for food.

“Should I leave something out for him? If I do, what’s the worst that could happen? Would he become dependent on that and keep coming back forever?”

I don’t know why I was so hesitant, but after many months, I finally decided to leave out food for him. I was so looking forward to it — to being useful and helping someone in need.

But the fox stopped coming around.  He would normally visit every few days, but weeks went by, and he wasn’t there.

Through pure luck and neighborhood talk, I later learned that the fox who was probably my visitor had been hit by a car — and he didn’t make it.

It’s always a good idea to be thoughtful and consider your actions and consequences, but I really regret delaying and not jumping in to help earlier.

I’m sad I didn’t help him, and I wonder if it would have made a difference in his life.

I waited too long. I overthought. I needed to do better, for him and for me.

It reminded me of other times when I missed out on an opportunity to help and to serve.  Painfully, a lesson learned.

There may be someone or something in our circles who can use our help — right now.

And we should feel empowered to step forward and make an impact — right now.
